Fiddleheads is a fun-loving, fashion-forward salon located in the heart of DuPont Circle and the fashionable epicenter of Washington, DC. The salon sits on the beautiful 17th Street corridor, which hosts a variety of events — from the annual Drag Races to the fall Gallery Walk. It seamlessly incorporates these elements of the progressive and the historic into its customer service and attitude. For six years, Fiddleheads has been treating their clients to a uniquely relaxing experience from the moment they enter the door. Conceived, designed, and maintained by owner/operator/head stylist Beth Abroms, Fiddleheads is named after the coiled leaves of the Ostrich Fern, a northern delicacy that Beth discovered on a trip to Montreal. Fiddleheads are always boiled and served with butter. Some popular fiddlehead variations include Dijon, pickled, sweet fiddleheads, or served with shrimp on toast. Fiddleheads offers clients the opportunity to get to know their stylist in a casual, yet professional manner. Each appointment begins with an interview and assessment where clients can speak openly about their style and intended direction. Stylists Tina Glass and Linda Sanders agree with Beth’s approach: “Why fight nature?” In accordance with this mantra, Fiddleheads carries an extensive, intensive, therapeutic line of products that soothe the light and wavy, tame the extremely frizzy, and fit every texture in between.

The Mane Tamer Hair Studio is going into its 20th year. Our mission is to be the best in the business. The salon was the first in the Maryland area to be trained in New York on the Deva way of cutting curly hair. We are totally committed to our Deva clients, with four trained Deva-trained stylists on staff. We pride ourselves on educating our curly clients on the Deva way of maintaining beautiful curls.

Capella's approach to curly hair is very simple: Don't try to make them do what they can't. Pay attention to the way the curls want to fall and encourage them in the right direction. Treat the curls as individuals that work together to create a beautiful head of hair. Capella stylists cut each curl individually, when the hair is dry.

Adding to the complete experience, Capella has shiatsu shampoo chairs by Takara Belmont, which give clients a massage while they're having their hair washed. Clients also are served champagne, mimosas, wine or Starbucks coffee (lattes, cappuccino's, espresso, etc.). Capella carries Deva, Karastase and Davines products. A key focus at Capella is education to empower clients to do their own hair.

"We know how to make your curls look good," says Capella owner Shai Amiel. "But we take great pride in teaching them how to duplicate these looks and allowing them to attempt new ideas with their curls. I think it's important for the stylist, curls and clients to work together as a team."
